Fruit plays a vital role in the balance of the human diet due to its nutritional qualities

Fruit is synonymous of health, let us see why

1. Its high water content  helps eliminate toxins from our body and keeping us well hydrated.

2. Its fiber input helps regulate our bowel function and prevents or corrects constipation. Fiber is of great dietetic interest since it also has beneficial effects on both the prevention and treatment of certain diseases (high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, gallbladder stones, piles and varicose veins, diverticulitis, cancer colon and ulcer).

3. Fruit is the almost exclusive source of vitamin C. Nutrition experts recommend taking at least three pieces of fruit a day, ensuring that one of them is rich in vitamin C (citrus, kiwi, melon, strawberries, tropical fruit).

4. Fruit contains antioxidants hat protect against conditions related to the degeneration of the nervous system, cardiovascular diseases and even cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed in recent years the results of various research studies that demonstrate the anticarcinogenic effects of fruit and vegetables, particularly gastrointestinal tract cancer and lung cancer. According to studies, one in ten patients with some form of cancer has made an insufficient consumption of fruit and vegetables. Other very healthy fruits are citrus fruits and some tropical fruits rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene, vitamin E and other substances with antioxidant properties, which fight heart conditions, cataracts, and breast, ovaries or bladder cancer.

Tricks to eat fruit every day
  • Try to eat raw or fresh fruit, since they lose vitamins when processed.
  • Eat fruit or vegetables as a snack when you begin to feel hungry: apple, carrot and celery or green pepper sticks are a good option when hunger strikes.
  • Choose at least three pieces of fresh fruit a day, one of them rich in vitamin C (abundant in citrus fruits like lemon, tangerine, orange and grapefruit, also present in strawberries and kiwis).
  • Replace a drink with fruit juice. It will provide vitamins and minerals although less fiber than whole fruit.
  • Enjoy dried fruit (prunes, raisins, dates or apricots), as they are another source of vitamins and minerals.
  • Eat vegetables daily. Better raw or in a salad for lunch, and boiled or steamed for dinner.
